Lebanon Strengthens Its Troops’ Presence on Border with Israel

The Lebanese army has strengthened its troops’ presence on the country’s southern border town of Meiss Ej Jabal in light of Israel’s recent actions near the United Nations-demarcated Blue Line between the two countries, Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported yesterday.

NNA said that the current security situation at the country’s southern borders was “notably strained,” explaining that there were around sixty Israeli soldiers as well as military tanks deployed across the area.

The Israeli military, the agency added, “continues to inspect the area through its drones which has been flying over the area.”

“The Israeli army had also placed blue marks on some of the rocks near the UN Blue Line and had set up a barbed wire fence along the border area,” NNA pointed out.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) forces have objected the Israeli move in the “disputed area.”

In response, the Lebanese army has been reinforcing its presence along its borders with Israel, sending around 106 military cannons to the border village.

On Thursday, the Lebanese Ambassador to the UN, Amal Mudallali, demanded the UN Security Council to condemn the Israeli activities along the border, stressing that it was violating the UN’s Israel-Lebanon conflict resolution 1701.
